Trucks transporting dangerous goods are not allowed to move freely on roads, because of the delicate cargo they carry, and because road transport is the riskiest type of transport, on traffic-intensive routes. The transport of dangerous goods is regulated by Royal Decree 551/2006 and the European Agreement on the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). These vehicles cannot circulate on the interurban public roads of Catalonia on the dates, times, and sections indicated in the annual resolutions on traffic restrictions of the SCT.
The term ADR comes from the French acronym "Accord Européen relatif au Transport International des Marchandises Dangereuses par Route".
In order to facilitate compliance with this resolution, the Servei Català de Trànsit offers the transporters a route calculator for the transport of dangerous goods, to consult the recommended itinerary on the XIMP network, in which Nexus Geographics collaborated.
